Kenny Hughes is a native of Biloxi, MS; His childhood was spent playing golf at Sunkist Country Club. He was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame when he attended MS Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston, MS. Thereafter he attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he was named Player of the Year for Golf. In 1989 Kenny was named by the PGA as apprentice player of the year by the Mississippi Chapter. He has held membership in the PGA since 1992 and has competed in and won dozens of Tournaments.

Kenny's first position was assistant professional at Hickory Hill Golf Course in Gautier, Mississippi. His first mentor was PGA Professional Mickey Bradley who has been with the PGA Tour as a rules official since 1990. When Kenny received his membership in the PGA in 1992 he became the Head Golf Professional at the Broadwater Sun Course. The course changed its name to the President Broadwater Golf Club in 2007 and Kenny was promoted as Director of Golf. He remained at that course until 2000 when he left to open Shell Landing Golf Club.

Since his arrival as the General Manager at Shell Landing he has taken a course in a relatively unknown area and raised the standards to a golf club recognized by Golf week and Golf Digest as one of the top public courses. Kenny is a well respected member of the golfing community and has held positions in tourism and is integral part of the effort to promote Golf on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

On September 20, 2012, Kenny Hughes, Kenny Smith, Arlin Mallette, and Michael Fondren purchased both Shell Landing and Mississippi National. Kenny is now CEO of the courses.
